A Gozitan story more than four decades in the making
Rooted in Gozo, shaped by its architecture and traditions, and built on a deeply personal approach to hospitality.
Our Story
Fanal Holiday Homes traces its roots to the early 1980s, when two young Gozitans, Ino Attard and Lino Cefai, began purchasing old farmhouses and traditional houses of character in villages across Gozo.
Where others saw ageing and neglected buildings, Ino and Lino saw the beauty and potential of Gozo's traditional stone architecture. They set about restoring these properties with respect for their original character while introducing the kitchens, bathrooms and practical comforts needed for holiday accommodation. From those early restorations, Gozo Village Holidays was born.
The business was hands-on from the beginning. Ino and Lino learned hospitality through direct involvement with their properties and guests - from renovation and maintenance to solving problems personally whenever they arose. That practical, attentive approach became part of the character of the business and remains an important part of its identity today.
Building a Legacy in Gozo
Over the years, their work extended beyond holiday accommodation. Their projects included the iconic Ta' Frenċ restaurant, the restoration and conversion of numerous farmhouses and houses of character, and the development of apartments designed to retain the visual character of the island.
What connected their projects was a consistent respect for Gozo. They sought to create places that felt appropriate to their surroundings, preserving the island's architectural and cultural identity while giving traditional buildings a new purpose.
In recognition of their contribution over four decades to Gozo's tourism industry, the Gozo Tourism Association honoured both Ino Attard and Lino Cefai with the Lifetime Tourism Achievement Award.
Continuing the Story
Following the passing of Ino and Lino, the business entered a new chapter through Tal-Fanal Village Ltd, which operates as Fanal Holiday Homes. Mary Grace Attard, Ino's wife and the company's Managing Director, continues to lead the business today, carrying forward their legacy while safeguarding the values, personal service and connection to Gozo on which it was built.
Under Mary Grace's leadership, Fanal Holiday Homes has continued to evolve while remaining firmly rooted in the founders' original philosophy: respect for Gozo, careful stewardship of its properties, attention to detail and a personal commitment to guests. The business may have developed over the years, but its character remains closely connected to the vision that began more than four decades ago.
